The Potiguar handicraft
by Yves Guerra

Rich in raw natural materials such as carnauba, coconut, sisal, wood, adobe, soap rock and other ones that can be used in accordance with the craftsman imagination, Rio Grande do Norte finds in its
handicraft one of the oldest artistic manifestations.
The colorful sands forming landscapes in small bottles and the bilro broideries that are used to decorate brides' outfits and towels are the symbols of the local handicraft. It is noticed the use of new techniques to attend fashion and architectural demands used in the decoration of parts of clothes and rustic environments.
In Natal, there are lots of handicraft stores and malls that concentrate the works. In the countryside of the state, especially in the Seridó region there can be found the famous embroiders, the carnauba and soap rock works and the visitor can have contact direct with the producer.
